Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP)

Provides gender-inclusive and informed advocacy and counseling services for those impacted by sexual violence, directly and indirectly.
Advocates can assist victims/survivors in medical, legal, community, and university settings in Johnson, Iowa, and Cedar counties. 
RVAP staff are Safe Zone certified and collaborate with all seven culturally-specific programs in Iowa.
Drop-ins are welcome during RVAP’s business hours, M-F, 9AM-5PM.

Women’s Resource & Action Center (WRAC)

Offers advocacy, counseling, information, and referral services as well as support groups, a lending library, and educational programs.  The Center provides a safe space to discuss concerns about harassment (including online harassment), abuse, or discrimination and connects individuals with additional resources as needed. People of all genders are welcome.

University Counseling Service (UCS)

Offers free, confidential counseling services to University of Iowa students. UCS assists students with any personal, emotional, or academic issues that prevent the attainment of academic and personal goals. UCS is staffed by licensed psychologists and psychologists-in-training in various locations on campus.

Office of the Ombudsperson

Offers informal, confidential and neutral problem solving and conflict management for faculty, staff, and students and provides mediation and advocacy for fair treatment and fair process.  The office is a safe place to discuss any concerns about the university or its policies and procedures. The office will direct visitors to additional resources as needed.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

A confidential, voluntary program offering services to University of Iowa faculty, staff, and their dependents. Up to four free sessions are available with a licensed mental health professional for the purpose of assessment, referral, and short-term counseling. EAP partners with University of Iowa Behavioral Health to offer sessions in three convenient locations on campus.

Campus Inclusion Team

The Campus Inclusion Team (CIT) provides support and resources to any student with a concern about diversity, equity, and inclusion. The oversight of the CIT is provided by staff in the Office of the Dean of Students Office (DOS). 

Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (EOD) | Complaint Investigations Unit

As part of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, the Complaint Investigations Unit is responsible for providing education and training to the campus community and serving as a neutral investigator for alleged university policy violations.  The unit works with faculty, staff, and students who believe they may have been subjected to prohibited harassment, discrimination, unfair or inequitable treatment in violation of the University's policies and also provides guidance to University administrators working to resolve concerns in their designated work areas.

Office of the Sexual Misconduct Response Coordinator (OSMRC)

Law and Policy in Action/Rainbow Health Clinic

​The Law and Policy in Action Clinic at the University of Iowa College of Law partners with the Rainbow Health Clinic to create an Iowa guide to changing ID documents and otherwise assist with the legal needs of trans/GNC patients.

National Resources

National Center for Transgender Equality | Know Your Rights 

While we work to strengthen and expand legal protections, there are steps you can take if you face discrimination today in every state and in almost every area of life. The National Center for Transgender Equality provides many resources as well as a list of how to file complaints of discrimination or mistreatment and how to find legal help.

FORGE

A national transgender anti-violence organization founded in 1994. Since 2009, they have been federally funded to provide direct services to transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender non-binary survivors of sexual assault. Since 2011, FORGE has served as the only transgender-focused organization federally funded to provide training and technical assistance to providers around the country who work with transgender survivors of sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking.
