The University of Iowa is home to over 500 student organizations. The following is a list of student organizations whose mission expressly includes supporting LGBTQ+ students.

The UI Trans Alliance's mission is to foster and promote a welcoming environment for trans and non-binary students, faculty, and staff at the University of Iowa, and to raise awareness of these issues and to work as an advocate within the local community. We have weekly meetings and spread awareness through informational lectures, discussions, and films.

oSTEM (Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) provides support and community for LGBT+ identified individuals. It was officially recognized by the University of Iowa in March 2016 and is currently seeking to become a chapter of the national organization.

Reaching OUT in Business (ROB) is the first club for LGBTQ+ students in business at the University of Iowa! Their mission is to promote professional development for LGBTQ and ally students; provide a support group for those that are out, coming out, or have not come out; and create an environment within the Tippie College of Business that embraces LGBTQ students.

Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL): College is a place to build memories and friends for a lifetime. Being a part of a fraternity or sorority is a great way to be involved in not only the campus community, but in the local community as well. FSL currently has two organizations within the Multicultural Greek Council that have specific inclusive language for those who identify as trans.

  • The Gamma Gamma Chapter of Delta Lambda Phi is a fraternity on the University of Iowa campus that was founded by gay, bisexual and progressive men for all men that exemplify and share our values, purposes, and goals. We come from diverse social, economic, academic, and geographical backgrounds, which all contribute to a unique fraternal experience that is unlike that of any other fraternity on campus.
  • Gamma Rho Lambda National Sorority is an all-inclusive social sorority exemplifying the qualities of tolerance, diversity, unity, and trust, which provides a network of assistance in the areas of scholastic guidance, emotional support, and community service while ultimately developing the lifelong bonds of sisterhood. We are a progressive sorority which focuses on issues of the LGBTQIA+ community, equality, and trans-inclusivity.

The Rainbow Room: The Iowa Writers' House is a community literary organization dedicated to creating a space for education, support, and resources for writers. Our Writers' Rooms are sub-communities of the house that bring together writers of shared interest or genre to free-write, respond to prompts, learn together, and find support for their work. The Rainbow Room focuses on LGBT literature and provides opportunities for LGBT writers to share and write in a safe, supportive, and creative space.

EQUAL MEDS (Iowa’s Queer & Allied Medical Students) seeks to educate the community on health issues that pertain to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) patients. They are also a social community committed to providing a support network for LGBTQIA health professional students and their allies.

Outlaws is an organization created by students at the University of Iowa College of Law. The purpose of this organization is to provide a common forum for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons interested in the law, and to provide for a climate of mutual support, protection, and professional advancement.
